Music And Lyrics - DVD Review

This is not a movie that will float everyone’s boat but I loved it.
There were many things I loved. They touched on the issue of people living in the past, which I am really
great at doing.
They also portrayed the eighties fairly well. Many of those older bands are now considered “has beens”. I
want to make it clear that I feel they have never been forgotten.
There is always a hook, though. See to connect there has to be a line, phrase or scene that hits home on
a personal level.
Here is my scene:
At one point in the movie Sophie (played by Drew Barrymore... one of my fav's) doesn’t want to sell her
lyrics because she doesn’t like how they are being used. Alex (Hugh Grant) doesn’t care. He just wants
the money because he sees it as a business transaction, money.
Sophie can’t finish the lyrics because she is feeling so down. They just aren’t coming. Alex just wants
them done and doesn’t understand that she is “blocked” due to the circumstances.
This is when he lashes out at her and takes the things that she is the most insecure about and throws
them in her face. After he has bashed her good he continues on.
“You think life is this fairytale and when it turns out that everything doesn’t end happily, you can’t deal with
it.”
You know what she does? She walks out.
She does get the lyrics done and they say something like, “I need inspiration, not another negotiation.”
